Hi There!!
I am so excited about being a part of a Day In The Country!! I would have to say that being a part of this show is definitely a highlight to my little handmade business!! So thankful and grateful for the opportunity!
A little about myself…I am a local mama to 3 kiddos, married almost 20 years to my high school sweetheart. I use to say littles when I first started sewing and pursuing this handmade life. Now they are big! My oldest is a junior in High School and we have begun the process of looking at colleges, my middle and my only boy is 14. My youngest one is 8 and I would say is the inspiration behind a lot of my sewing.
I am a self-taught seamstress that began sewing right after my youngest was born. I started out with little small projects that gradually grew into making her clothing along with handmade items for moms.
I started sewing because I loved the “boutique” style clothing and thought “I want to try this!” I continued to sew because I love it! It is my time of relaxing and getting away to my sewing room is a sanctuary of sorts. Over the past few years my sewing has evolved and the items I make have grown. I now sew my daughter’s clothes to keep her modest and young. I feel that there is a push for our girls to grow up too fast and look older than what they are. By making her clothes I can keep her looking age appropriate with a few ruffles and skirt lengths that are modest for little girls to wear. She has voiced her opinion and has let me know that she wants to dress “More mature”. This has pushed me to try new patterns and fabrics. After having moms asking me at local craft shows to make items for boys, I began making ties and suspenders for little guys.
I love the fabrics, colors and textures that come with my little handmade business. I love creating items for everyday use and everyday wear, whether it is a bag or a wristlet that a mom carries or a skirt or dress that can be worn to school and the park. All of my items have been playground and school tested!!
I started selling my items on a Facebook page at first and to family and friends, then gradually began to sell craft shows then selling in a local Children’s boutique called Two E’s in a Pod in beautiful downtown Hartville. I took a leap and opened an Etsy Store with the name of Handmade By Ozella. This little business of mine is something I do after being a mom first. I am thankful to be able to stay at home. The income I make supports my “fabric habit” and allows me to be a part of something bigger when God brings something my way that I can be a part of. I am able to donate a portion of what I make to ministries that He has placed before me and went on a missions trip with my oldest two summers ago.
